Damascus - Sham (Poem in English)

by Ermal BEGA

DAMASCUS (SHAM)

Damascus (Sham),
how wonderful you are,
with your beauty,
your illumination,
your streets,
your magnificent mosques,
your great personalities,
your history,
your people,
your girls...

I miss you so much
ya Sham.
I miss smelling your fragrance,
yours ya Sham,
I miss your people,
oh wonderful Sham,
I miss your ‘Ilm (knowledge),
ya ‘Sham ash-Shareef’,
I miss your girls,
I miss my petal, ya Sham...

It’s been so long since I smelt your aroma,
it’s been so long since I enjoyed your gardens,
it’s been so long since I touched your petals,
it’s been so long since I touched you,
it’s been so long since I looked at you,
it’s been so long since I felt you...

Ya Sham, I love you so much,
with everything within you...

I will return again,
wait for me, soon, inshaAllah,
to have your nectar again,
and I wish, I please,
to die there,
beside you...

I love you,
ya Sham...
